We haven’t talked in a while, have we?
I’d like to admit that we just drifted away from each other, but that really wouldn’t be true. I stepped away from extra work and focused on the people who matter the most in my life.
I needed time away to attend to some personal and family matters, and I needed to get my own mind right.
You see, I’ve always had a ton of curiosity for tinkering with things outside of the “work” environment.
In 2019, I began a rabbit hole running Linux on the desktop (yeah, I was doing it before Omarchy was cool) which would end with me soldering a motherboard on a ThinkPad T400 to enable a quad-core CPU to be run on a board that was only intended for an Intel Core Duo chip.
In 2023, I had an interest in machine learning and genetic algorithms, so I created a pathfinding AI model .
But in September 2024, a tide turned. A series of events happened in my life that were pretty scary. It led to an unprecedented amount of anxiety, grief, and loss in my life.
And the challenges would come in wave after wave. Once we made it through one set of challenges, we’d get hit with another terrible blow, sometimes just a day or two later.
If you’re familiar with Psalm 23, you know the verse:
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
— Psalm 23:4 (LSB)
In a sentence, this has been my story over the last two years. In the depths of anxiety and grief and loss, God’s tender mercy was always there. I didn’t always listen to hear His voice, but it was always there.
The LORD carried me through it. He has given me sufficient grace to see His beauty, and He’s held me fast.
I don’t know what God’s plans are for my future, but I now feel like my curiosity has returned.
And I’d like to document what I’m doing here on this website!
So I plan to do just that: every so often, I’ll write about the things that have been interesting to me. I’ll share tweaks to my developer workflow, or software projects I’m building, or maybe (just maybe) I’ll get back into running Linux again.
It feels really good to have some naturally occurring curiosity again.
